  • ✨Blotox = botox injected into the scalp to decrease sweating and help preserve blowouts. Sounds crazy, right? But dermatologists have been using botulinum toxin (aka botox, xeomin or dysport) to decrease sweating in plenty of other areas for many, many years. We use it on the palms, soles, and underarms regularly for this. Some use it for patients who have bothersome sweating in the private region too. It all works. Why?
    .
✨Remember how #botox works for wrinkles? A chemical messenger called acetylcholine acts on our muscles to cause contraction or wrinkles. It turns out that acetylcholine also acts on our sweat or eccrine glands. When botox blocks release of acetylcholine the eccrine glands can't secrete as much sweat. So, you're less sweaty. Voila. .
✨Is this really necessary? Necessary? No. But for those folks who find that sweat ruining their blowout keeps them from working out it might be worth it. I personally never get blowouts but my hair is truly unruly and is a contrarian at heart. In all honesty, I don't often do cosmetic procedures to myself #cobblerwithnoshoes but this would be a game changer for my get ready time in the morning. .
✨Pros: -- In general it lasts about 3-6 months. Technically botox is supposed to last about 2-3 months but most of the cases of botox for sweating lasts about 6. -- Although this hasn't been in practice for that long there has been a study that looked at botox for androgenetic or familial hair loss. It found that patients in the group that got botox actually had a small improvement in hair growth. .
✨Cons: -- It doesn't work for everyone. I haven't heard of a case where it hasn't worked but I'm 100% sure that's true. Pretty much nothing works in everyone. -- The botox is given through injections. So the average person needs to have something like 50-200 injections. The number depends on how much area you want covered.

  • ✨I'm going to a conference for the rest of this week because doctors are #foreverastudent . I'll post some stories during my time there but before I get on my plane tonight I wanted to post a story I did with Lindsay Tigar on how to take care of jet-lagged, post vacation skin. This article is from August but it all still holds true! ✨Your skin's reactions depends on what climate you're going to or coming from, but more than that, the low humidity on the airplane can lead to dry skin and make you more prone to breakouts. It can also make your skin look dull and tired looking. That in combination with the less sleep and more alcohol that often accompanies vacations can lead to dark circles under the eyes. ✨My tips: - Get back to healthy habits
    - rejoice! You're reunited with your skin care regimen! - Spot treat any acne that you've gotten (swipe through to see what my patients have been loving for this.) - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Try a humidifier and a rich moisturizer on top of damp skin.
    - for those under eye circles? Try some cool compresses, a caffeine, retinol or glycolic acid containing cream and lots of sleep! If all else fails, undereye filler can be a lifesaver. ✨Click the link in the bio to read the full article. Hoping none of you need this after a restful Thanksgiving break! 💕 #drpapri

  • ✨I was talking to Wendy Rose Gould about the pros and cons of botox parties for a story she's doing and realized that doing one of our own might solve a lot of the end of year rush we've been having. I know everyone wants to get in before the holidays so we're doing a Botox and Filler Event on Thursday, December 6th at our office. We'll have special pricing, raffles, snacks and lots of chances to mingle. Call the office on Monday to schedule an appointment and for full details. 617.277.0800
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Also, not to steal Wendy's thunder but I'll list some of the pros and cons of coming to an event like this in my stories. Go check it out if you're interested! Also, ask any questions you have in the comments below and I'll answer them before Monday! #scoutshonor ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ The office will have all of the scheduling and rate info and will call everyone to make sure they know what instructions they need to follow before coming to the event (like avoiding blood thinners for fillers etc.) . Like this post if you'd like to see more of these and ask any questions below! 💕 #drpapri

  • ✨I have a lot of patients in their 20s and many of them ask what they should be doing for their skin that will make them happy when they're 40 (because that is the oldest they can ever imagine being. 😬)
    .
✨I love these future oriented skincare junkies! So when Maddy Sims and Business Insider asked me to give them some details on what I say in the office, I was happy to! .
✨There are a *lot* of great nuggets in the article (link in bio). Starting in your mid-late 20s you start to lose collagen in the skin. This can lead to less of that youthful cheek plumpness that we all love. Your 20s (and 30s and 40s) are a great time to start making global changes that will help your skin and body stay healthy. #itsnevertoolate #evenifyouhadamartinilastnight
