  • I’m sitting in the airport, waiting to fly back to my beautiful home, reminiscing on the past 4 years and feeling so many emotions. What a wild ride this has been. I lost my mom before my high school graduation, then the social security administration falsified my death (ya, it’s possible) and I lost all of my financial aid. I could’ve let that stop me from pursuing my education, but I didn’t. I watched all my friends go off to university while I stayed behind and worked 7 days a week to put myself through community college while completing an internship that changed my life (shout-out to my OG health scholars). The work I put in got me into an incredible school on a full-ride scholarship and I moved down to New Orleans. Moving 2,500 miles away from home, knowing no one, was pretty hard. I struggled a lot at Tulane, with my mental health and my studies, but I also met some of my forever people who became such an incredible support system, I know I wouldn’t have made it without them. I pushed myself harder than I ever have, and despite the universe’s many efforts to stop me, the thought of quitting never crossed my mind. The past 4 years have been filled with so many obstacles, overwhelming grief and joy and struggle and success. But I look back on everything I’ve been through with gratitude, because I’ve finally made it to this moment that I’ve been working towards for the longest 4 years of my life. I’m grateful for the adversity I’ve faced, the people I’ve loved and lost and found, because here I am, 4 years later, a first generation college graduate with zero student debt and a degree from Tulane University. Holy shit y’all I finally did it!!! .

P.S. I know people say college years are the best of your life, but here’s hoping they’re dead wrong!

  • Boarding an empty plane may be one of the very few perks to being injured on vacation, but, I’ll take it.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to board the plane early, in my walking cast, without accidentally kicking someone’s foot or having to stand in line a long time, @spiritairlines !

Allowing me to board early was a very kind gesture. You made traveling with a broken foot almost easy. 😉

  • Josie was an absolute rockstar on our flight home. She snoozed the whole time and was so well behaved in the airport. She never fails to surprise me in the best ways!!

  • Moving Abroad Travel Journal: "Fake It Till You Make It". •

I've been going through old photos this afternoon and have come across this one of me in August 2012 before beginning a two year move to Spain. •

Many folks would message me in the coming months asking how I was brave enough to travel alone and wishing they too could do something similar one day. •

The truth, I would let them know, was that I was OUT-OF-MY-MIND NERVOUS/SCARED/ANXIOUS (but also excited!!) to attempt to have the kind of life I dreamed about. •

The next several months would contain some of the most challenging (as well as the most rewarding) experiences of my life. •

For me, this photo represents being nervous but saying YES, I CAN anyway. •

Sometimes we do have to just fake it till we make it! 🙌🙌

Have you ever lived abroad? Where did you live? How long did you live there/how long have you lived there?

  • I had one exposure left as we were leaving the airport, and when I passed this bleak corridor, I knew it was a worthy scene. Airports tend to be such cold, emotionless places. This photo almost feels like a horror scene to me. Like, “get out while you still can...” the EXIT sign suggests

  • Always fun to see your work pop up unexpectedly! So, I’m finally going to start practicing what I preach in the New Year (more like mid-January to be realistic!). This insta feed will still be sappy posts of Jake the dog, sunsets and Paul, BUT my new feed @maryclaytoncarljones will actually focus on work, fun new projects and stylist tips! Until then, happy holidays and lots of love!

  • Last year, @willdouglas1977 got Jamie a Papa 3 Ghost mask for Christmas. This year, he is doing it up even bigger for her! Not only did she get a Ghoulette mask, but he is taking her to New York to see Ghost live for their last show on the American leg of the tour! Jamie is so excited to go on a plane for the first time and to experience Ghost in New York!

  • Heading home for a week ✈️ I hate to check a bag and try to always travel with carry on luggage. Any tips from you guys that do the same???? My top tip is to decant your toiletries into carry on bottles or stock up on smaller sizes of your favorites. I also limit myself to packing only 2 pairs of shoes; usually a pair of trainers for working out and one pair of heeled boots (and I wear a different pair of flats/trainers on the flight).
