  • This is my friend Ned. I met Ned around 2005. He was a new white belt starting his jiu jitsu journey at about 58 years old. In a month he turns 72. Yesterday he was promoted to Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Ned is the man. There are many that look up to Ned and view him as their mentor / father figure. If you were at his promotion, then you have a small idea of what a stud he is and how many look up to him. He trains and teaches classes in not only BJJ, but also fencing and soccer refereeing. All this while being a family man, holding down a day job and being retired from the military. The best part of Ned is how positive and how happy he is. Always brightening up a room. Always greeting you as though he is genuinely happy to see you. Ned was the first person that I taught private lessons to. I would tell Ned to “lose the death grip” because he would be extremely tense during training. This stubbornness would eventually work out in his favor. After having a heart attack and open heart surgery, he used his grip on death and told the Grim Reaper that he was too busy to die. I want to be like Ned. We all should be like Ned. I’m super happy for you Ned. Glad I could be a part of your journey. I hope to spend more time with you and learn more from you. You’re the man!!!!!!! PS - an hour after being promoted he went and gave a private lesson to someone. I told him to charge double since he’s now a black belt 😂
