  • Do you get enough ‘Vitamin P’? ✨ Holistic Nutritionist Sarah Britton of @mynewroots shares some beautiful insight on a recent post: “I am a firm believer in eating things high in Vitamin P – Pleasure. 💓
If we eat food out of obligation, expectation, or to fulfill some arbitrary requirement, we are literally contradicting our nature as humans, who are hard-wired to feel joy when eating. Consuming foods because they are “good for me”, not because I like them, is in no way an incentive. In fact, I find that it initiates unhealthy thought patterns, so I make sure to LOVE my food. Every bite. So it fills me with pure, living, joyful energy - the most nourishing and potent elixir of all!
Vitamin P-rich lunch today: Toasted rye sourdough, vegan double-cream cheese, fresh fig, pistachio, truffle honey, cracked black pepper. Happy Friday, dear friends. May your weekend ahead be FILLED with plenty of Vitamin P!✌🏼✨”

  • Your Spirit Guides are Not Necessarily Your Ancestors

Spirit Guides and Protectors, also sometimes referred to as Guardians, are of a different class of spirits than one’s Blood Ancestors. This class of spirits is SOMEWHAT similar to the Traditional Yoruba Concept of Egbe or Heavenly Mates. 🕯

Spirit Guides are not necessarily related to one by blood, though they could possibly be very distant ancestors. Due to the Yoruba concept of the journey of the human soul, it is highly unlikely that your grandmother is one of your Spirit Guides. 🕯

We propitiate our Spirit Guides on a raised white table, where we place glasses of water (a conduit for spirits), we place a crucifix, we offer fresh flowers, tobacco smoke and incense, some also place other offerings that represent our Guides and their “Commissions” of related spirits (such as statues, images of Saints, or Tarot Cards), we burn a single white candle as we offer specific prayers and songs, we clean ourselves with various fragrant waters, perfumes, and oils while standing before this white table (Boveda/Mesa Blanca). 🕯

We do not generally place offerings of food on the white table, nor do we ever make blood offerings there. Propitiation of these entities is purely of a spiritual nature: Water, Flowers, Fragrance, LIGHT, Prayer, and songs.
Strictly speaking, photographs of deceased ancestors should NOT be placed on the white table. However, in practical application they often are. This is related to syncretism WITH Roman Catholicism. It was common for Catholics to offer prayer sessions (praying the Rosary or a Novena) on behalf of departed loved ones and family members, and there are also Spiritist prayers of elevation for our departed family members. It is common to see photographs of departed loved ones placed on shelves ABOVE the Boveda rather than directly upon it. 🕯

We believe the time we spend praying to God for the elevation of our Spirit Guides strengthens our Guides to assist us from the Spiritual Realm, and the time we spend meditating at the white table strengthens our bonds to our Spirit Guides. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ CONTINUED IN COMMENTS BELOW⬇️⬇️⬇️
